Funai Electric to Support Japanese-American Youth Baseball Exchange Event Sponsored by Boston Red Sox Foundation
Funai Electric Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Daito City, Osaka, Japan; President and CEO: Tomonori Hayashi) announced on July 8, 2008 that it would support the 2008 events to strengthen the Japanese-American Youth Baseball Exchange Program sponsored by the Boston Red Sox Foundation, the charity organization of the Boston Red Sox, a U.S. major league baseball team.
This year’s events will also be supported by the city of Kyoto, Boston’s sister city (celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Sister City Agreement), the Chiba Lotte Marines Baseball Club and Marines Baseball Academy, and the Japan Society of Boston.
From July 25 through August 3, 2008, twelve young people from 12 to 14 years old selected from youth baseball teams in Kyoto and Chiba will visit Boston along with two coaches, where they will participate in international cultural exchange events while being treated to baseball clinics by coaches from the Boston Red Sox and local universities and playing friendly games against local youth teams.
A similar friendship and exchange program in Japan during the summer of 2009 for youth teams selected from Boston is scheduled as a second-year event.
