Notice Concerning Establishment of a Research Institute

Funai Electric Co., Ltd (President and CEO: Tetsuro Funai) would like to notify that we establish a subsidiary, Funai Electric Advanced Applied Technology Research Institute Inc. on April 1, 2004.

1. Purpose of establishment of a research institute
Funai Electric Co., Ltd makes 100% investment and establishes a research institute for the purpose of production technology research and development through the use of advanced materials and basic theory like nanotechnology for the industrial infrastructure in the 21st century. Funai appoints Dr. Tadashi Sasaki as President and CEO who is the Chairman of the Board of International Center for Materials Research, a nanotechnology research institute and was formerly the Executive Vice President of Sharp Corporation. Funai intends to apply the technology of the new research institute to the development and production of new products and to form the foundation for new business. The new research institute makes a challenge of the application field that fills the gap between basic research and production field, and aims to yield results based on a long-term perspective.
